Good morning naval and innovation crowds. Just a few more details about the book that James Russell from @NPS_Monterey and myself brought to life. Our goal was to cast a wider intellectual framework to understand what innovation is, does, and implies. Here’s the ToC:
Where is the project coming from? Here is the opening passages… note that our ‘spiritual’ guidance came from Bernard Brodie and JC Wylie - two absolutely brilliant strategic thinkers who appreciated innovation and technology...
What's the book’s main argument? If I were to take on passage that gives an idea, the one below really gives a sense of where we wishes to go with it...
The contributions in it have covered all sorts of matters - both historically, and in contemporary terms. Some highlights that really showcase how far we tried to go with the puzzle of innovation:
a. organisational culture and innovation with @PeterDombrowsk6 tour de force;
b. innovation as a doctrinal question, looking at how navies should look at working with partners as an area of innovation, with a specific contribution on NATO;
c. intelligence, expected security landscape as places where innovation comes from and goes to;
and more and more.
