I meant to sleep last night but then I started plotting an alternate history where Christianity never happened
I was like half-awake so my history probably isn't great but part of it was also Islam came to exist even though Christianity did not.

So Rome still fell but instead of the Roman church you had like, confederations of various polytheistic groups--Germanic, Celtic, Norse
The Byzantine Empire adopted kind of a syncretic form of Zoroastrianism mixed with elements of Jewish & Islamic mysticism
I still had Muslim armies invade Spain & establish al-Andaluz but they were held back at the Pyrenees by a federation of Gaulic groups.

Jewish communities merged basically into like, city-states through central Europe after Rome fell

A resurgent Carthage kept its own gods
British history was kind of similar except it was dominated by Celtic religions and a local form of Roman Mithraism left behind by the legion

Norse still attacked, blah blah

Ireland remained Celtic
Norse/Celtic traders made first contact with the New World. Set up economic relationships between indigenous peoples & Europe that were lucrative enough to stave off colonization.

Indigenous confederations/alliances/groups accessed European products but not imperialism
Trading settlements were established along the """American""" coasts.

I think I still had the Black Death happen but it wasn't as severe since most cities/communities were like Poland & instituted basic quarantine procedures
