The campaign of harassment of Dublin Lord Mayor Hazel Chu by the Far Right is relentless. 5 years ago a British MP, Jo Cox, was murdered by a FR extremist radicalized on the internet. And it seems like Ireland is going to wait until they turn to violence before we do something.
Far Right news sites have been stoking the hatred and rage aganist Chu to the degree that the editor of Gript Media John McGuirk has pleaded with his followers to "lay off" the racism, with predictable results.
One of the organizers of the protests harassing Hazel Chu is a @OgraFiannaFail member Niall McCall. McCall has also been involved in the homophobic protests involving horrific and baseless accusations about Minister Roderic O'Gorman late last year.
Aside from homophobia Niall McCall was a prominent pro life troll who has repeatedly had accounts banned for things like publishing the names and phone numbers of doctors who carry out abortions.
The ugly truth about Irish politics is (one of) the reasons we've never had a successful far right party in this country is that our mainstream parties are a little too comfortable & welcoming of racists, homophobes & the far right into their ranks.
But this problem is particularly acute in the ranks of the youth wings of 2 of our major parties. There are prominent far right activists in Órga Fianna Fáil & Fine Gael. If @fiannafailparty are serious about tackling racism they should start by cleaning house & expelling McCall.
According to his Facebook page Niall McCall was invited to rejoined @OgraFiannaFail in April 2020. A month *after* he took part in the ugly & homophobic protests organized by the far right against the newly appointed childrens minister Roderic O'Gorman.
