Support for more counterterrorism/extremism, and the expansion of the security state, under Biden by commentators and academics is misguided & dangerous. 1/
Opposition to the far right & racist double standards in policing/security must involve challenging systems & approaches that have & will con't to disproportionately affect racialised communities, antiracists & antifascists who have been on the front line & sharp end of this. 2/
Systemic and state racism are not gone. People are treating it as if racism ended with Trump or the storming of the Capitol, but for the extremists who must be tackled. 3/
That is part of the story, but it can also serve as a distraction that not only allows systemic and state racism to continue on, but get reinforced through enhanced and expanded criminalization and securitisation of social problems & political threats. 4/
Sure, it's one that was ignored previously, but ruling politics are temporary and contingent, systems rarely experience radical uprooting at that level & harm can be done (se COINTELPRO) + Biden-Harris are centrists with not unproblematic records on law enforcement & justice. 5/
