SPDC JV partners say the Board of Trustees has a US $540 million budget to date. @HYPREPNigeria confirmed in March a transfer of $38.5m. I'm surprised @UNEP is unable to confirm who's running the largest environmental clean-up project on the planet, to which it's an observer.

Any idea who's running @HYPREPNigeria - at $540 million, the largest clean-up on Earth - day-to-day? @UNEP can't confirm it's @lemdek.
Hey, more than happy to keep reporting this major scandal exclusively outside Nigeria, pretty much.

When BP spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico it - rightly - got round-the-clock reporting internationally. Why silence about a UN-endorsed half a billion dollar clean-up in Ogoni?
What is it about decades of pollution in Nigeria that means my colleagues in journalism are less inclined to report on it than, say, Americans being affected by oil spills in Florida and the Carolinas? Hmmmmmmmmmm.
