Happy Friday!
Chancellor Merkel considering Zero Covid ( #s as low as possible, like last Summer) & admits this is the best way to get normal 'free' daily life back. Political question of what it would cost (incl. I think on int'l travel). Germany has land borders w/9 countries. https://twitter.com/TiloJung/status/1352242382817923073

ICYMI- last summer I spoke to @derspiegel about why a Zero Covid strategy is 'least worst' b/c trying to simmer COVID is like simmering milk. Always ends in a mess. Chancellor Merkel makes the same point in her response. It spreads too rapidly. https://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/what-europe-can-learn-from-scotland-in-fighting-the-pandemic-a-43c59573-f8f1-489e-ba4b-269974a73eee
Genetic sequencing has shown how close Scotland was to eliminating COVID in the summer until holidays & travel. 'Stringent public health measures can be compromised if following this, movements from regions of high to low prevalence are not minimised.' https://www.cogconsortium.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/9th-December-2020-COG-UK-Report-Scotland-SARS-CoV-2-a-genomics-perspective-SAGE.pdf
