The degree to which Turkey believes it can meddle in internal US appointments i.e @brett_mcgurk and domestic politics is clear from this piece; Ankara's media is pro-government and only publishes these pieces at the behest/approval of leadership. It thinks it can dictate to US
It could be Ankara's regime got this idea under the previous admin when it not only believed it could dictate to the US but probably had influence regarding appointments inside the US admin which is quite worrying. That's how it got to invade and spread chaos in Oct 2019.
You'll note that Ankara's pro-regime media NEVER has articles like this dictating to China, Iran or Russia about who they might appoint in their administrations. It felt it controlled Washington's foreign policy. It felt via its lobby and friends it could control choices.
Look at the rhetoric that the regime media in Ankara uses to describe how US officials are "irritants", as if Ankara is controls the US. And note how the article celebrates how the former US admin was pushed around and forced to do things by Ankara's "footprint"
This article is an incredible open admission by Turkey that it was able to outplay the Trump admin and push US forces out of the way to sabotage US policy...it's openly celebrating...and now seeks to have McGurk's role reduced to once again control US policy.
When you have an "ally" that never speaks this way against adversaries and always smiles and works with Russia and Iran...and only bashes you...you know it's not an ally. Ankara's regime and its media are clear.
