why you shouldn't be supporting atypical: a thread
"Atypical" is a netflix original series, the first season came out in 2017. it revolves around 'sam' an autistic teen and his family who are affected by his autism.
it donates and supports autism speaks, autism speaks is a hate group and has killed people. i'm sorry for the quality for the picture
not only does it donate a hate organization it sterotypes the autistic character into a textbook definiton of what non autistics think what we act like.
"A lot of autistic people do, as they often have sensory processing disorder, too. Atypical’s first episode features an entire scene devoted to Sam's headphones in a restaurant, but the audience is conditioned to laugh at him for it. https://www.teenvogue.com/story/netflix-atypical-autism-representation/amp?__twitter_impression=true
it makes a running gag of calling its one person of color character "brown sugar."
