Last month when I was on a call with an older Black woman who was justifying why armed police needed to be in schools with our kids, because the teachers wanted them there, I was disgusted.
And of course I immediately told her, “those people need to find new jobs if they’re that fearful of being around Black and brown children”.
This is what “elder leadership” fucking thinks is acceptable. Capitulating to the demands of people who don’t worry about their kids getting funneled into the school to prison pipeline.
Her kids are grown, so it’s not her concern. She obviously has her liaison position to keep Black folks cowering to those same backwards demands. But I’m not for that shit.
And what was more pathetic was the fact that the call was centered around standing up to police being free to impose their will on every aspect of our lives in this county.
So while y’all get all hype for symbolism and “signs of progress” when a new Black first is awarded, I recognize the signs of old sellouts who got in good, and stay employed “keeping us in line”.
