1 INC Folks born post-1990 almost have no experience of how vicious and cruel INC was till mid-1990s

3 Post-1990 folks are tempted to believe that Sonia INC is original INC; Nope. It is very different!
4 INC that I grew up with & seen is an arrogant, greedy& corrupt entity. I hv not experienced Nehru, but my father gave mixed views; I suspect my father was an INC supporter

5 I particularly remember how arrogant Rajiv was, moreso when it came to Tamils issue in SL. He reversed his Mom's policy of supporting Tamil movement; then he sent IPKF who wd have killed 10K to 20K Tamils

5 Rajiv was an arrogant and immoral man - the way he lent support to Chandrasekar Govt only to unseat VPSingh, he then joined hands with Jaya, RV and SuSu and used CS Govt to dismiss 6 mnth old DMK Govt...it all ended in his own death

7 PVN can be credited with economic reforms (debatable) but he clearly shifted the already right leaning INC (from Rajiv days) further to right paving way for growth of RSS/BJP for which India is today paying a very heavy price

and made INC somewhat a decent outfit. I would credit this trait of hers not to the Nehru-Gandhi clan but to her European upbrining. That can be seen when you compare the behaviour of the other 3 Gandhi compatriots of hers (Rajiv, Sanjay and Menaka) in Indira's family

9 One can write reams and reams on what Sanjay Gandhi and alongside him, that brattish wife of his, Menaka Gandhi, did during emergency. Come to think of it - today's INC supporters get repulsed by Menaka whereas during Emergency she was in the centre of it all!! 7/n
10 So the problem for folks like me - those born before 1990's is to have to deal with this horrifying legacy of INC even as we fight against Modi/Shah/RSS

12 I personally believe that post Rajiv, a sense of decency came into politics; this decency existed till mid-way of UPA-2 when Modi's career graph grew. That credit in a way, should go to both Sonia & Vajpayee

15 Post 1990-born INC folks only remember Sonia's INC. So they pin their hopes on RaGa to bring back that Utopia

17 As I said earlier, Sonia's European roots have put in certain secular democratic values in her which she dovetailed into the Indian political system. Hence she may be an exception in INC. I am not so sure about rest of INC guys even though RaGa seems a decent chap

18 If someone asks me to rate Modi alongside Indira and Rajiv, I would rate all three on par. In fact, even Modi will not try out Emergency, which was an open and naked usurption of power like tinpot dictators do; India escaped dictatorship by the nick then.

19 (I still would give benefit of doubt to Sonia for Sri lankan genocide . I believe it could be MMS, surrounded by bloodthirsty hounds like MKNarayan, Nirupama, SSMenon etc who perpetuated the crime. Yes Sonia could have stopped it. She should have. But she chose not to!)

I appreciate your idealism. But then go and read more about INC past. There is an extremely ugly side to INC
