As a project that documents + chronicles autonomous social movements, we think its important to remember out how much people fought the Trump administration tooth + nail. From flooding airports, wildcat striking teachers occupying state capitols, to confronting the Alt-Right...
...tree-sits that shut-down pipelines, encampments that blockaded ICE, rent strikes and mutual aid networks in the face of the pandemic, and a mass rebellion against white supremacy unparalleled in American history.
These actions had a huge impact, showed that large scale struggle was possible outside of non-profit and Democratic Party control, and that people across a vast terrain could self-organize and fight back.
Historically, this should be compared to the reaction to Trumpism by the Center, which instead pushed to absorb the far-Right into the existing political structure, especially as a way to out flank movements from below that challenged State and corporate power.
The result has been a continued mass transfer + consolidation of wealth through tax cuts + deregulation, while over 400K in the US are now dead from the coronavirus. Meanwhile the ecological situation grows more dire, the State more repressive, and the far-Right more violent.
It's crucial we remember and apply the lessons of these struggles + movements for what lies ahead. For if we don't remember + learn from our own history, those in power will provide us with a narrative that will strip us of every ounce of agency and power possible.
