What an absolute disgrace - the NSW Premier’s Office breached the State’s records act when it shredded documents relating to a $250 million pork-barrelling grants scheme, the State Archives and Records Authority has found.
This is unacceptable. There appears to be no depth too low for this Government to sink to. This kind of behaviour should never be tolerated and should never have taken place.
Every step of the way in this scandal we have had revelations of incompetence and coverup. Now we learn the very agency responsible for administering NSW’s important public records has been scathing in its assessment of the way the Premier’s Office maintains crucial documents.
It comes just one day after the Information and Privacy Commissioner referred the matter to the Independent Commission Against Corruption and recommended that a new offence for the “reckless” destruction of government information be created.
I will be addressing this new legislation as a matter of the highest priority when Parliament resumes next month.

Given today’s announcement, Labor will also consider whether the powers available to State Archives and Records are adequate or need reinforcing. #nswpol
