Shiv vaas and its importance in Shiv Pooja .
It's said that for a sankalpit rudraabhishek for fulfillment of any desire/ Shiv Pooja / mahamrityunjay anushthan etc , checking Shiv vaas is very important . SHIV ji is said to reside in 7 different places during the month .

Calculation of Shiv vaas as per Narad rishi is
तिथिं च द्विगुणी कृत्वा पुनः पञ्च समन्वितम ।
सप्तभिस्तुहरेद्भागम शेषं शिव वास उच्यते ।।
Multiply tithi by 2
Add 5 to product
Divide total by 7
Check remainder
Shukla 1 to poornima are 1-15
Krishna 1 to amavasya is 16-30

The results of Shiv vaas should is explained as under
कैलाशे लभते सौख्यं गौर्या च सुख सम्पदः । वृषभेऽभीष्ट सिद्धिः स्यात् सभायां संतापकारिणी ।
भोजने च भवेत् पीड़ा क्रीडायां कष्टमेव च । श्मशाने मरणं ज्ञेयं फलमेवं विचारयेत् ।।"
कैलाशे लभते सौख्यं गौर्या च सुख सम्पदः । वृषभेऽभीष्ट सिद्धिः स्यात् सभायां संतापकारिणी ।

Positive results / happiness/ prosperity/fulfilment of desires is indicated when Shiva is on kailash / with Gauri / on vrishabh.( Remainder 1,2,3)
Otherwise it can bring sorrow/ problem to progeny / extreme unhappiness in rest of the cases

As per this S2 , S5 ,S6 , S9 , S12 ,S13 are auspicious in Shukla paksha .
K1, K4, K5,K8, K11,K12 and amavasya is auspicious and can bring fulfillment of the sankalpit anushthan during Krishna Paksha.

IMPORTANT POINTS :
SHIV vaas is important ONLY during any Pooja/ anushthan/ abhishek which is done with some desire or sankalpa in mind.
For daily nishkaam Pooja this is not mandatory. Similarly for any Pooja/anushthan in any pilgrimage/jyotirlinga/ maagh and shravan .....

.....during shivratri and pradosh , Shiv vaas can be avoided.
Also along with Shiv vaas, panchang Shuddhi needs to be considered for a sankalpit Shiv anusthan for fulfilling a wish.
