So I was watching this happen and I have a slightly different hypothesis that explains mask slipping on male non-doctors. I think it’s a combination of several factors: https://twitter.com/nytscience/status/1352459579154685953
1. I think the “manspreading” issues identified in the article are true, but also: 2. most cloth mask designs are on the small side for men, making them more likely to slip off their noses, in contrast to medical masks. And >
3. The slipping happens during talking, especially loud, gregarious, happy, laughing talking. I’ll bet doctors learn to move their chins less when they talk so their masks don’t come off their noses. Regardless, guys: THE MASK GOES OVER YOUR NOSE
Re-upping my mask pattern, which I designed in a wide variety of sizes. If your masks come off your nose because you have a big face, try making the largest size of this one. https://twitter.com/elakdawalla/status/1267309605815607296
This is a factor that had not occurred to me but it makes perfect sense, actually! Each tiny slip hooks mask under very short shaved hairs, and mask gets pinned in new position, so after not very many slips it comes off. https://twitter.com/karl_littau/status/1352465336218513410
