The most pro-life stance I've ever encountered had nothing to do with legislation. I was 20, unmarried, & still in school when my wife & I found out she was pregnant. In premarital counseling our pastor lovingly said if we didn't feel like we could handle it "I'll raise him." https://twitter.com/bobstevenson/status/1352317536877092866
He's now 13 with three siblings. We're still doing our best and far from perfect but that has always stuck with me. It's one of the things that led us towards fostering. Church, what if there's a better way?
Legislation may have a place but that offer completely changed my perspective on effectiveness, especially after seeing how some have made legislation an idol of wrath without this same willingness.
Some may choose abortion bc of inconvenience but I think far more are scared of a future without means or support. Are we willing to be that?
It takes hard commitment. It means reaching into people's mess and long term investment. We were blessed to have so much support from friends/family, emotional & financial. Are we willing to commit to holistic healing, more than just a quick check to feel good?
Not everyone will be called to the same commitments but there is so much need. Temporary long term supplemental income, housing, job training, foster care, adoption.
I didn't really intend this thread and I'm not really good at any of this (I've been a recipient more often than not) but I can't overstate the impact that these things have had on my life.
