The Black Mamba (Dendroaspis polylepsis) (rovambira) (ginyambila) is a venomous snake found in S & E Africa. It is the world's 2nd longest venomous snake after the king cobra. It is rumored to clock speeds of upto 16km/hr unofficially making it the world's fastest snake
The grow to a length of about 2-3m. They are either grey or olive in colour but they get their name because of their black mouths. When threatened they lift about a ⅓of their body length above ground, puff their necks & hiss loudly to scare off attackers
When cornered this snake will attack repeatedly injecting highly potent neuro & cardio toxin venom in its victims. Death can result in 20mims after being bitten. It is both a terrestrial & arboreal snake. It has nasty reputation for being the most feared snake in Africa.
