This from the @OversightBoard about the Trump case - it will "consider whether Facebook’s removal of the content respected international human rights standards, including on freedom of expression and other human rights"- is a very notable milestone for #bizhumanrights 1/
While the decision itself will be important, the accompanying narrative in the case decision promises to be significant too--what are the underlying principles, methods, and criteria that apply, and how have they been interpreted? What is the human rights analysis of the case? 2/
Quote: "The Board is committed to being transparent...and the case decision will be published on the Board's website. The decision will present the key information used by the panel to reach a decision, along with an explanation on how the panel reached its final conclusions." 3/
The significance goes well beyond this case, such as whether govt officials should receive more, less, or same restrictions on content, and the relationship between online content and offline context. A human rights analysis of these questions will be a major contribution. 4/
Lots to be said, but taking a moment to cheer the deliberate inclusion of international human rights standards in a very significant decision, and recognize that we will all benefit from thoughtful analysis. 5/
