I'm glad to be back in the pages of The Wall Street Journal with a blunt message: Trump was rock bottom and either the GOP faces reality and deals with its extremists or becomes extinct. https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-gop-hit-rock-bottom-can-conservatives-recover-11611270946
Any conservatives fretting about the far left need to look in the mirror first and deal with the far right radicals who took over the GOP. America needs two parties (or more!), but one cannot be grounded in lies and demagoguery.
The Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol was the rock-bottom moment that asked if the GOP wants to go through the pain of rehabilitation and live, or die in ignominy. There can be no pretending it didn’t happen. https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-gop-hit-rock-bottom-can-conservatives-recover-11611270946
My message to Biden and the Dems is to accept the hand of conservatives if offered in good faith. One, to achieve their policy goals. Two, to encourage the deradicalization of the extremes. Getting results for the American people matters more than revenge.
The right must prove that their violent fringe is not the whole carpet. And don't try whataboutism or lecture about socialism when I've spent my life warning about its dangers. Biden is hardly a radical. Clean up your own house. My op-ed: https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-gop-hit-rock-bottom-can-conservatives-recover-11611270946
I've been loud and clear on demanding accountability and never forgetting or forgiving those who undermined the rule of law for the sake of power with Trump. This is why the GOP must move first, preferably by convicting Trump and disqualifying him from running again.
Is it morning in America? My new WSJ op-ed is about what conservatives must now do to save their souls, and possibly their party, by rejecting lies and extremism. In the print edition today and online here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-gop-hit-rock-bottom-can-conservatives-recover-11611270946
