They say "don't read the comments." I did. Apparently a lot of people think baseball couldn't exist without owners & they are really angry that I described them as people who collect money based on other peoples' work.

They aren't small business owners who save up to start a new business and then reap profits off its success.

They have bought into a private club that prints money. They don't have to do anything. They don't even have to try to be successful to earn profits. And, after 2/x
they depreciate the value of the contracts, they can sell the team at an astronomical profit or merely just keep earning the annual profit indefinitely. There's barely any risk at all.
And, their predecessors have convinced municipalities to bankroll construction of new ballparks, so they get to do it too without any real effort. They get incredible leases on those parks. It's corporate welfare. Free money. A printing press of it, for joining a private club.
