Okay, while we wait for #Verzuz to begin, let’s talk vaccine distribution. On Tuesday night, I sent an email to the City Administrator after receiving several emails/tweets re: childcare workers be removed from the Phase 1B priority group for the vaccine. 🧵
CA Donahue responded. Wanted to share some highlights of what I learned:

First & foremost, childcare workers have not been excluded from the Phase 1B priority group to which they were assigned, nor have law enforcement or grocery store workers or independent school staff.
DOH has decided to breakup the priority group into smaller subgroups due to its large size relative to our small supply of vaccine. Y’all know we get supply from the feds every week and right now we’re averaging 8-9K doses a week. We have nearly 400K workers in groups 1A & 1B.
At the current rate of supply, if we only vaccinated essential populations in groups 1A and 1B, and no one else, it would take nearly a year to vaccinate just those groups.

(Biden Administration, we have a problem! But y’all know that already.)
At this point, given the population of seniors at risk in DC, the Executive has decided that the vast majority of our vaccine doses are allocated to seniors. Only a fraction of our weekly doses will continue to be allocated to essential workers from Groups 1A and 1B.
BIG POINT: DC Health hopes to open vaccine appointments to the other subgroups in 1B (ie., childcare workers, etc) within the first 2 weeks of February, but this may change due to vaccine supply.

Perhaps I should’ve had this earlier in the thread, but there’s no edit button.
One thing to also keep in mind, DC is vaccinating it’s workers regardless of where they live even though the supply provided to us by the fed govt is only by population. Hopefully, the Biden Administration will change this as well.
Didn’t do this thread to debate the Executives choices, but to provide information. I’m going to keep pushing the CA and Exec to be more proactive in their communication about vaccine distro. BC frankly what I’ve shared tonight should’ve been share with providers earlier. /fin
