a thread! of all the things i noticed about this ultrasound picture. i would like to preface this by saying that i am a board certified sonographer who has been using this same specific ultrasound machine for over 3 years.
the first thing i noticed is that she did not mark out her medical record number. that’s immediately a huge red flag for me. a medical record number is highly confidential and it’s extremely strange for her to not mark that out on a public instagram picture.
next thing i notice is that her name is not in all capital letters. most of the time, medical centers use all capital letters for names to get rid of any potential errors in spelling with L’s and I’s.
everything else on that picture is in all capital letters so that means that the machine itself is programmed to use all capital letters. that machine only uses capital letters. her name should be in capital letters and it’s not. so that leads me to believe that’s it’s edited.
next thing, her birthday is missing from that picture. all medical records, files, pictures, anything medical related has to include the patient’s birthday to ensure that it is the correct patient.
she doesn’t have her birthday on there even though the machine should’ve automatically included her birthday on there when the picture was printed. as a tech, you do not have the capability to control what information is printed on the picture, it is controlled by the machine.
next big thing is that her due date and/or last period date is not on there. for every OB ultrasound you either have to enter an estimated due date or the date of their last menstrual period to even be able to start the exam.
the machine will not start the exam without entering a date in there because it needs a date in order to calculate baby’s estimated weight and how far along the baby is. so that’s missing.
next, i’m assuming that her due date was around 1/20/16 because that when F’s “birthday” is. she would be around 15-16 weeks at the time that picture was taken. the baby looks about the right size but the machine is in the wrong setting.
15-16 weeks puts her in her 2nd trimester so the setting on the machine should be OB2/3 and the picture shows that the machine is in the setting OB1. so that’s weird to me.
last thing is that there’s no label on the picture. you always HAVE to include a label on a picture, especially on a picture you are giving a patient. you have to be extremely careful in the images you print for patients, mainly for legal reasons.
so again, these are just things i noticed about the picture itself that are strange/weird to me and immediately threw up some red flags.
do with this information what you will but please don’t attack me, i’m just pointing things out that are incorrect about the picture.
