If Match Day Extra Dividends had been paid out from the beginning of the season 🧐

All of this was possible thanks to the data from @footballindexed

For the purpose of the analysis, I've defined the beginning of the season as Friday 11th September.

Picked a Friday as this is the start day of the weekly rolling periods as defined by Football Index.

I'm excluding the existing game week (15th - 21st Jan)
There have been 16 complete game weeks, which means £3.20 would have been paid out 🏦

247 players shared this £3.20 between them 🧮

1 player has won the dividend 5 times
2 players 4 times
12 players 3 times
39 players twice 🤔

Which means, 193 players have won it once 😲
While it is possible according to the game rules, no player is yet to place in the top 6 twice in the same week 🚫

I haven't checked to see how many players would have won the main dividend in the gameweek AND placed with their second performance.
The top winner of this dividend with 5 wins in 16 gameweeks would have been a player traders are rather familiar with...

🇵🇹 Bruno 🇵🇹

And two of the best oldies still in the game are would have been close behind him with 4 wins from 16 gameweeks:

🇦🇷 Messi 🇦🇷
🇵🇱 Lewa 🇵🇱
Lots of Index favourites, for differing reasons, would have won the extra dividend 3 times.

To name a few:

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Sancho
🇳🇴 Haaland
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Trent
🇧🇷 Neymar
🇩🇪 Kroos

Here's a breakdown of total winners by position:

Goalkeepers: 28
Defenders: 76
Midfielders: 77
Forwards: 67

⚽️
Out of the 28 goalkeepers to have won, only 3 have won it more than once:

Bounou: 3p
Navas: 2p
Ospina: 2p

For all of you wondering, Neuer and Donnarumma would have both won it once each 🥅
Trent is joined by Jordi Alba, Danilo and Angelino as the only Defenders who would have won it 3 times in 16 gameweeks 3⃣

Fun fact, Jose Fonte would have missed out on 2p due to his age! 👴
Bruno (5), Sancho and Kroos (3) are joined by Di Maria as the only midfielders who would have won it three or more times.

There are another 9 midfielders who would have won it twice, including the likes of Maddison, JWP, RDP, Hakan and J-Rod 🧙‍♂️
And for the forwards, Bailey and Morata join Messi, Lewa, Haaland and Neymar as the only front men who would have won at least 3 times.

There are then 16 more who would have won twice. Kane, Rashford, Oyarzabal, Ronaldo and Fati sit among that group! ⚽️
General feelings after going through the data 💭

- Thought there'd be a smaller pool of winners
- Lots of ties on pts and it's common for players to miss out by 1pt
- GKs prob best value in % & competition terms
- CL/EL players will benefit hugely
- Correlation with TOTM high
