I've listened to this album an absurd amount of times so i just had to make this thread eventually
also this is mostly focusing on the production and the instruments!! and i cant fit everything here or this thread will be 100 tweets long so yes
first one in dogs: this big vocal harmony that puts the verse on hold and just sounds incredible
then, this little organ riff in the middle bit that is just my favorite thing aaaa
also the way the "stone" echo degrades more and more as it repeats and is blended in so well in the song

i love the detail of the vocoded barking dog sounds in the background, I've always thought it was a really creative addition

now in pigs. this riff sets the atmosphere so ~perfectly, it's kind of menacing and dark and exactly why mr rick wright is a miracle

the end of the guitar solo here releases all of the tension that's been building up for minutes, and lets rick and david's organ and bass parts truly shine
david Once Again killing it on bass here with these octave runs that go up and down the neck and that are ridiculously hard to play so cleanly
beautiful playing from rick here on a fender rhodes keyboard
roger back on the bass here, highlighting his bass tone and the use of a flanger on it which i really love
okay now sheep is RIDICULOUSLY UNDERRATED compared to dogs and pigs - the entire band is on their top shit during the entire song
exhibit a: these descending bits that transition from a part of the verses to another are SO GOOD - roger's singing throughout the whole song sounds insane too in the best way possiblet
and the lyrics fit so well!! "what a surprise! the look of terminal shock in your eyes"
this tension and kind of unhinged energy in the song is perfect for the theme of the sheep here, and there's probably someone out here that would be happy to analyse the lyrics.

love this synth note that adds some tension, also love the effects on the other keyboard part in the background
a really unsettling guitar run by david followed by the organ creating an alarm sound, then leading into a spoken word part with the normal voice in the right ear and a louder, vocoded part in the left ear

they added some effects onto the synth which starts to distort after the transition and it sounds amazing. also love roger's scream and laugh here 10/10
yet ANOTHER killer guitar part from david and also noting nick's drumming which is so good throughout the entire album
i didnt talk about rick's playing nearly as much as i should here considering he carries this album on his back but there's just WAY too many keyboard parts to talk about and they are all really long as well
rick's presence on this album is in my opinion what gives it its sound, what allows it to convey its message so well and also the foundation of the atmosphere of the album
all 3 songs have these quieter middle parts that are honestly my favourite parts of the album ajd and that's all thanks to mr. rick wright
also im completely sleeping on the lyrics and singing but SLAMS HEAD ON TABLE it is all unhinged and so good and i wouldnt do it justice in this stupid thread
the darkness of the lyrics is perfectly reflected by the band here my boys they r so talented. will never get over how good roger's songwriting is
also apologies to pigs on the wing but it's just 1 acoustic guitar and there's not much to analyse here </3 anyway yes the production on this album is INSANE for 1977 so go stream it right now. animals ceo out
