We want to teach safely.
We are taking action to help protect lives.
Any interruption in classroom instruction will be the mayor's choice. We choose to teach, like we have been doing since March.

And teach safely, like we have been doing since March.
Parents, students, clergy, community organizations, local teacher unions, service unions, national teacher unions, nurses, clinicians, physicians, county elected officials, state elected officials and 42 out of 50 Chicago City Council members also choose safety.
We in a global pandemic that has killed more than 400,000 Americans. We have offered reasonable proposals that prioritize safety.
Chicago public school educators have been threatened, trolled, locked out, gaslighted, scorned, ignored, docked pay, forced to work in unsafe schools, fallen ill with COVID, seen friends and family infected with COVID, and died of COVID.

Yet they persevere.
A deal can be reached, but any agreement must have provisions for a health metric, testing, vaccination and staffing. Our members and the school admin who support them are the experts on schools. Their concerns aren't noise. Their concerns are valid, and they must be heard.
We are within reach, but we need partners at the table.
Let's continue our fight and cross the finish line, safely, together.
