-In a group chat talking politics, I say, “I have a visceral reaction anytime I see Kenney, or hear his voice. He is a repugnant human being." My sister goes “that’s instinct- the brain goes danger-danger.” Which is absolutely true. Thread.
- Kenney never shares anything that makes him human. Vulnerability and empathy are needed in leaders. They are required. No one gets it right all the time, but the ability to take ownership over the missteps is where you grow as a human and thus as a politician
-You have to make tough decisions. You won’t get it right all the time. But Kenney is so full of himself,he thinks he has the answers to everything. Being a leader means you also have access to experts in a variety of fields and you need to bend your knee and show some respect.
-You need to listen to the people who have dedicated their lives to their field. People who have chosen to make Alberta their home. Thinking you have the best idea in the room always, means you are weak in your ability to lead.
-Looking at a number on a budget line without taking into account the person or people behind it, is heartless. We don’t expect perfection, but we do expect decency.
It is peak arrogance to think you know better. Albertans are proud, strong, kind people.
- Sneering at public servants who dedicate their life to working for Albertans is next level disgusting. Doctors, nurses, all medical professionals. The who education crew. The list goes on. We are in the trenches doing what we can to give Albertans the best possible service.
-But at every turn Kenney makes it harder by making cruel cuts that leave us baffled and confused. Public servants are left to pick up the pieces. Gutting projects at such great public cost without transparency. Many public servants are doing the jobs of 2 or 3 for the same pay.
- Pay that many think is too much (it isn't). I do this as I’m proud to serve Albertans. I dreamed of being of service to people. It was a job where you needed to have integrity and character. These things mattered. When I was a young pup, my goal was to work for government.
- I wanted something better for everyone. I wanted to build and be a part of a community. Both of my parents are hard workers with admirable work ethics, but they didn’t have the extra money to save for an education fund for 3 kids.
-But I had access to a world class public school education. I could pull myself up. There was some equity, though equality is something we still have much work to do on. Inclusion is one as well.
-This strong, actually robust, public education system is something the UCP wants to take away right now. Like reinstating out of date information, propaganda and more white washed history.
-Education in this province isn't perfect, but for something to work you need to actually fund it accordingly. You also need people to understand and want better for their kids and society. That is the momentum that helps push things forward.
-The Ed Minister @AdrianaLaGrange has no time or respect to face Albertans and explain a safe plan for back to school. We all want our kids in school, we just want them and the staff to be safe. Period.
-Taking away PUF funding when all experts know that early intervention is paramount in a child’s development. The cost of taking it away is unbelievably unfathomable for all those hurt by this choice. Which is everyone to be clear. We all lose when we don't support children.
-We need to foster critical thinking not take the ability away. The children are future leaders & innovators & we want them to have the skills to succeed. If you haven't, go talk to the youth in Alberta. It is filled to the brim with inspiring, and brilliant young young adults.
-The Ed Minister couldn’t be bothered to show up and be accountable to fair questions at a COVID Presser. She had time to tweet my Husband a congrats for a Canadian teaching award though. Mind you that wasn’t likely done by her personally, but is good PR.
-I was able to go to University and had loans but the cost was manageable. I want every kid to be able to have access to a quality education regardless of their parent’s income. I got a degree and then my first job within the government. I was so proud of this accomplishment.
-What it meant to be able to be a change agent within. Help the people, listen & stand up for what is right. To serve Albertans is a true honor. I believe in social programs, that we should take care of each other. You see, I know in my bones there is absolutely a right &wrong.
-The problem is people want to blur that on their quest for power and money. Rationalize away the hurt they just inflected, because they wrote the rules that exempt them from the pain.
-Cut after cut we Albertans have endured. Truly we are covered from so many cuts that we are now the walking wounded. The current UCP government will never be able to provide salve to what they have done. Their incompetence and arrogance has led to so much pain and despair.
-We have lost 1484 Albertans. 1484! Let me tell you, I have been on the phone with crying, frustrated and desperate Albertans who just want someone to show them that the GOA cares for them. Really they want to be seen. We all want to be seen and heard.
- I know this won’t reach him and I’m screaming into the void. But I want a record of how I felt. I want my kids to see where I was standing while history was being made. If any Albertan reads this, please know I stand with you. It hurts my heart whenever anyone loses a job.
-Misogyny & systemic racism are powerful forces that many people uphold daily. For many, myself included, have been content to go with the status quo as the beneficiaries. We have start living with social responsibility. We can’t pretend something doesn’t exist because it hurts.
-We need to be accountable for what has been done to create a path forward. I think Albertans can do this. We must. To have a great future we must acknowledge our errors and learn the lessons so we do not repeat them again.
-We are living through our own Trump. It's bad. Like, next level bad. Kenney is holding our province hostage and we just want it back. This is our home. Our mountains, forests, farms, towns, cities and ALL the people. Show some integrity for once in your life and #ResignKenney
