Hey loves. I got vaccinated against COVID19 today! As promised, I’ll keep a thread/virtual log of my experience.
Many of you may remember I was hospitalized due to COVID19 complications in April/May of 2020. I almost died, which was terrifying.

I’ll start with why i decided to get vaccinated, and how i got vaccinated.

Ok, SO. I decided to get vaccinated for three chief reasons.
1. COVID19 almost killed me. When weighing side effects, none were worse than death (and its ableism that tells us otherwise). On May 2, i started to face what felt like a certainty that I’d die alone in the hospital.

Idk if i can stress enough the number of times a day i think about how strange it is to be alive. I blew up balloons a couple days ago and almost had panic attack bc i was so nervous my fragile reality of post-COVID wellness would be shattered. That my lungs maybe didn’t heal.
I think about almost dying at least once a day.
2. I’m a traveler. I cannot be happy in life w/o the ability to see other corners of the world. Experiencing the richness of the diaspora is my life line. I anticipate vaccines being required for entry to countries, bringing me to;

3. I’m a traveler! You know how many vaccines we take for entry? W/O asking a bunch of shit? HELLA.
Yellow fever, polio, Hep A, Hep B, Menengitis, and some more. I know it’s a new vaccine compared to the others listed, but it was still a rationale for *me*

Ok so how did I get it? Well, I’m blessed to be on staff @ @BreadfortheCity, and staff are able to be vaccinated since we’re a distribution site (woohoo!). That said, if you are eligible to receive a vaccine—if ya mama, aunties, uncles, neighbors are eligible—COME THRU.
@BreadfortheCity is vaccinating at 1525 7th St NW from 11-4. The current process dictated by @_DCHealth is not great, and has some barriers that make it so PREDICTABLY, people getting vaccinated are also folks with access—to internet, to transportation, to info.
That being said: those of us who DO have internet, DO have resources (including my org) must figure out how to a) shift @_DCHealth to a more racially just process (including language access!), and b) if we can, help Black & brown DC residents access the system. I digress.
So the vaccine we have (that i got) is the Moderna one. It’s two doses, 28 days apart.
Today (1/21), was my first dose. It was quick, it didn’t hurt. Nurse Danielle told me all the things i wanted to know, was patient with my shot fear, and transparent about her own experience.

My second dose is 2/18.
Today, i feel fine. I have generalized anxiety disorder AND am a hypochondriac, so obbbbbviously during the 15 minute observation period my brain manifested alladem (
) but then my brain chilled out.
I feel great. No pain at injection site. Coolin.

About 6hrs since my injection, and I’m just now experiencing soreness at the injection site. It feels kinda like...a bruise?
Ok, so I’m about 18h out, and i have increased soreness in my arm, and a headache that may want to form. Going to take a Tylenol.
Ok so the Tylenol did the trick for keeping the headache at bay, but this arm pain deflee laughed hard at that acetaminophen. I took a nap bc i slept almost none last night (maybe 2hrs...) and had a full Friday til 4. 4:01 i fell asleep and slept MARVELOUSLY.
Something interesting happening that began yesterday evening, not sure what to attribute it to: heightened arousal. I’m not going to get specific, HOWSOME-EVER........
Yeah. Like a 9/10 just waking up, despite arm pain. Like...nine point eight. Significant enough 2 report.
