after being enlighten how sonic x's portrayals are a good template for how everyone acts, the same person told me that archie shadow, is the same as idw shadow. (keep reading LOL)
the difference? archie allows his feelings to brought to the surface mostly/is more emotive. idw does the opposite (for valid reasons) but they got the same heart. so if u wanna get a closer look how shadow's heart works? look at archie. this is basically a summary of his heart.
this shows u his care/respect for maria, sonic, rouge, & omega. it's all right there & it STILL IS in idw. it STILL IS in shadow in general, today. he just keeps to himself more now. he's distant bc he doesn't wanna get hurt again. that's his template.

sounds A LOTA LIKE our shadow today don't he? and sonic said the same thing here basically
the example of shadow's stubbornness that you see today. his no liking for wasting time or digging into too many details.
just a personal ideal as to why shadow may not be so fond of humanity. but he will protect it for maria and he has. they are no longer on earth anymore in idw.

and even when everything was good again. shadow is STILL SHADOW! still very bold headed and sure of his ideas.
lets not forget his ego
when shadow wants to return a favor?? yep. still there. especially for those he cares about.

and even HERE he admits he can't teleport far enough. he can only go so far without an emerald!! just like #6 shows, and why he couldn't aboard eggman's ship in #30 bc metal wouldn't let him get close enough

all this? this is his heart. he just keeps it closer to him now.
and he has slipped showing examples of that in idw.
THIS IS WHY!!! THIS SCENE IS SO POWERFUL
all I'm trying to say is you need to look inbetween the lines when it comes to shadow a lot of times bc the care is apart of his development. 
I just hopes this eases a lot shadow fans out there bc so many times I've had to see so many say he just doesn't care. & while I understand that why u feel that way, it's actually very untrue. and he's like this in the games too.
maybe more and more he'll get better with his words again but, still. shadow got a heart and it's been right there in front of us for years.
