The 2019 general election was a disaster for the Labour party. Entirely predictable — and predicted, which made it even more painful to see decent, compassionate candidates who genuinely care about the broad mass of people, not a certain few, losing their seats.
Fast forward to now, some obsess far too much about the day-to-day opinion polls, when the poll that matters most is that of the next GE. It’s remarkable the amount of progress made by Keir Starmer and his team in the 9 months since he became leader.
Lab is relevant again. Keir & team are a very bright light in what was a very dark tunnel of total irrelevance in the eyes of the British people. I’m encouraged by the focus on issues within party, particularly expunging Anti-semitism which has been a terrible stain for too long.
I’m encouraged too by the continuous emphasis on winning elections. Something which didn’t seem to matter to some in recent years. There is a long way to go, but optimism and hope inspire, and the progress made both internally and externally provides that optimism and hope.
