Hiya. A serious post for a change.
Here's a thread about an important subject. I'd be really grateful if you'd take a few secs to retweet it to spread it as far as possible through financial services.

It's coming up for two years since I did that mental health podcast with @93_smithereens . Time flies and all that. Won't cover old ground but the reaction to it was a bit mad really.
The reason I'm referring to it here is one of the unexpected outcomes of doing it.

What happened very quickly and ticked along ever since is a bunch of new friendships from people who it resonated with for whatever reason. It's been a hugely positive experience and I reckon talking about these things has huge benefits.
(obviously it goes without saying it's no substitute for professional treatment for those who need it)
Anyway, fast forward to where we are in this seemingly never ending quagmire of the extension to 2020.
We're lucky to work in the sector we do but most of us are knackered at best and struggling at worst.

My instinct is that loads of people (without wanting to sound like some kind of insufferable mental health Batman) must be struggling just now with feelings that they're maybe not used to and would benefit from chatting them through.
Ollie and I have been messaging back and forth and wondering if there's a small way we could help.
So, that's what this thread is about. We're going to try and build a wee community of folk who have been touched by mental health issues, either directly or indirectly.

We're not gonna change the world with this, but maybe if we build a place full of friendly numpties like Ollie and I it might help a few people.
I don't know what, if anything, this will turn into over time, but we're going to give it a bash.

As a starting point, I've made a private Facebook group called "the unnamed financial services mental health group". Called it that because anything Ollie and I came up with was total mince!
Absolutely everyone is welcome.

It'll be a place to chat stuff through, get connected to similar people, similar situations, have a chat to people.
We'll have the odd bit of social stuff as well, granted it'll be on Zoom no doubt for the foreseeable but it's better than nothing.

So that's it really. It's a very small attempt to scrape together something tangible, different and positive from this God-awful situation.
Thanks for reading and I'd hugely appreciate it if you retweet the living hell out of this to see if we can make something of it.

(PS I know Facebook isn't everyone's bag of chips but we're trying to use something that most folk are on to start off with. Over time we might move it to something else if it's a success)
(PPS I'll probably fuck something up technology-wise at the outset, I'm getting old)
