I'm a little bewildered because I just heard some astonishing things from a Jacobin podcaster
- political power only = statecraft and policy
- Q is a cult and therefor not a serious threat to the left

Hearing them say these things out loud is good, because it lets us identify why their analysis is so wack. But honestly listening to them talk, it just betrays a deep misreading of history which I can only hope people can critique and move on from smdh.
call me an ignorant rube but my understanding of political power came from Hunter S. Thompson's essay on his campaign for sheriff. He said something like "political power is the ability to control your environment" there are all kinds of ways one can do that outside of the state.
from assassinating a prominent figure, to organizing a union, the idea that voting or getting elected is the beginning and end of political power is absurd to say the least.
Q is only a cult? well so what, it up until just now involved millions of people on facebook and was able to organize protests across the country up to and including storming the capitol building.
The right is uniquely disorganized, until it isn't. The far right is sectarian and self destructive, but when the chips are down, can be organized via the state to work outside of the law, see Colombia, Indonesia, Chile where right wing elements were organized by the state
Finally, material gains and wins by working class movements almost always provoke more serious and violent right wing reaction, almost like a law of politics. When the left gains enough power the right is always ready to resort to civil war if it feels threatened enough
Jacobin cites Corey Robin's thesis that the right is historically weak right now but he also points out thats true because of historic weakness of the left. When we get strong get ready for a strong right wing reaction. I would say this time around they are getting ready for war
