I promised to do a thread about the vaccines
after people were asking so many questions on my previous posts..Ps *I’m not a vaccine or COVID expert...the following tweets are according to my understanding on what I’ve read so far @DonnyM24595608 @jus__proud

To date there has been more than 200 vaccine trials and more are still being done..the ones authorized so far on the market include Mordena ,Oxford Uni-AstraZeneca,Pfizer-BioNTech
What is an mRNA vaccine?:these are vaccines which contain genetic material with the instruction to make a protein..in this case a spike protein which is found on the surface of the virus that causes COVID 19 ..tbc
When the vaccine with the genetic material is administered it gets into the human cells and uses our cells to make the spike protein which causes an immune response (making antibodies like what happens in natural infection against COVID 19)
After the protein is made the cell breaks down the mRNA and gets rid of it and after our bodies would have learned how to protect against future infections
Were the vaccines fast tracked? Its important to note which parts were fast tracked and which parts were not.Regulatory approvals were fast tracked ie funding, data analysis, submission to the FDA.What was not fast tracked was enrollment of patients for the study, clinical follow up
Cont.. The mordena trial had 30000 people and the Pfizer trial had 44000 people.Over 90% of side effects of vaccines occur 30 to 45 days after a vaccine trial ends. The FDA gave an allowance of up to 60 days on the trials to make an authorization.
What is the FDA?It’s the USA Food and Drug Administration which is responsible for protecting the public health by ensuring safety, efficacy and security of human drugs, medical devices etc
Are the vaccines safe?it’s important to note the meaning of safe..No medication or medical procedure or vaccine in history is completely free from side effects..in this case side effects such as fever, headaches, joint pains were noted ..tbc
Of the side effects noted..they were not as dangerous as a bad case of COVID 19 illness..**Ps most trials did not include pregnant women & children below 12..trials with these groups are still in progress
Why was it the fastest vaccine in history?scientific integrity was not compromised..1.The speed was related to the technological advances that have been made over the previous 10 20 years...
2)When proving a vaccine efficiency & there’s only a few infections in the society it will take even up to 10 years to get a vaccine but this was done in the middle of a big outbreak which takes a shorter time to note the efficacy..long term efficacy is still being monitored
Can you still infect someone (or be infected)after getting the vaccine? You can still be infected even after getting the vaccine. The vaccine will (95%)protect you from getting sick not from getting the infection so you can be an asymptotic spreader
