Hear hear, my first ever football analytics thread. I've looked into the chance creation numbers across the Eredivisie. Some familiar faces to see at the top, but certainly some odd ones out there.
We can see that the 'obvious' players stand out, like Dusan Tadic, Steven Berghuis and Antony. Especially Tadic creates loads of chances, but the quality of chances are (on average) relatively less than the chances created by Berghuis and many others.
Unexpected positives (1): Ola John has the second-highest keypasses per 90 while playing for a relegation side (RKC). A reason for this could be that he hasn't played a lot and therefore his output will 'balance out' after a while. The same argument holds for Lassina Traoré...
who on average creates the highest quality of chances. The argument also holds for Gijs Smal, but he is still an exception to the other two. He is a left-back playing for FC Twente, not one of the top teams the players close to him in the graph play for. He is not even a...
regular starter for his team with the emergence of Jayden Oosterwolde. Similarly, Senesi stands out, since he creates the second highest quality of chances while playing as a centre-back. However, this can be explained by the set-pieces, which I cannot exclude from the data.
Here is the example of Senesi's high chance quality. A set-piece brought back into the box and Senesi heads it across goal for a Geertruida tap-in. This boosts his xA with 0.77.
Unexpected positives (2): I was really surprised by the output of Silvester van der Water, but after watching him against Feyenoord yesterday I can see why. He was pretty difficult to deal with for Malacia, who pocketed Antony three days earlier.
Special mentions: I was interested in some specific players as well. Especially the talented players at PSV. Gakpo is considered to get a call-up for Holland soon, and Ihattaren is regarded as a wonderkid, but England-youngster Noni Madueke is outperforming both of them.
Feyenoord related: I'm very surprised by the output of Orkun Kökcü. He's not having the greatest of seasons but his output is still very good. He still significantly outperforms his replacement Mark Diemers. If only we finished the chances he created...
(special mention to @Varkenoordfan and @KuipTalk as I think they are as much of a fan of Kökcü as I am).
So that's it, my first football thread. Much more to say from this graph, but I think this is enough for now. Data provided by @Tussendelinies (for which many thanks for the dashboard created).
Special mention to people who inspired me to get started, and would love to get some feedback if possible. @nandy_sd @Gegenpressing91 @NinadB_06 @lambertsmarc @mckayjohns @Blades_analytic
