During the set up for the State House hearing with Secretary Kathy Boockvar, I heard a GOP rep -- no Dems are physically here -- joke about "handing out lyrics for Kumbaya."
Committee Chair Seth Grove, R-York, said the goal is NOT to relitigate the 2020 election's various law suits. Boockvar is here to talk about DoS's guidance during the 2020 election, however.
Grove asks members to only ask about eletion guidance, not any other topic, at least until every member has asked a Q.
Boockvar and deputy Jonathan Marks were just sworn in. That's new to the House, which added that little accountability measure in House rules this year.
Boockvar says her primary goal is to make sure "every eligible voter votes safely and securely." Says DoS guidance is to help counties conduct what ard effectively 67 individual elections consistently.
"The guidance is persuasive," Boockvar said. Guidances include DoS advising counties not to require signature verification on ballots or try to "cure" mail-in ballots, for example.
"In every one of those cases, the court upheld our guidance," Boockvar said.
Boockvar suggests that House Republicans should file a Right to Know request for internal emails on guidances to counties. Grove asked for them, but Boovkvar said she'd need specifics to know what to provide.
