In 2014, Lahur Talabani arranged a meeting between Brett McGurk and Mazloum Abdi in Sulaimania during the siege of Kobani, the US support started then.
At the time, Abdi also met with Qassem Soleimani to give guarantees that their partnership with the US won’t be against Iran.

Important to note: this is a suggestion and the US side will most likely decline it at this stage for obvious reasons but the suggestion in itself is interesting.
