One of Trump’s big mistakes is using citizens as his assassination tool.

This is a very bad idea for fascists. You use your loyalists, your secret police, keep people afraid.

You do not teach the plebs they can & should murder their rulers at their desks if they don’t like them
Almost all fascists try to frame their takeover as a movement of the people, but I can’t think of another regime that actually tried to use the masses as an official death squad

Bc then they don’t fear you, they feel empowered, & if they don’t like how you roll, you’re toast
Trump would have had no idea how to handle his base if his little Instagram Putsch had worked.

They would have thought themselves a co-equal branch of government. If they’d killed Pence & been rewarded, if Trump set one foot wrong they’d turn on him because he taught them how.
The power of the people is insanely strong, but rarely used because people individually rarely feel empowered.

Fascism cannot afford for people to feel that, or you end up like Mussolini. The last thing it wants is for the masses to learn how to rise up & take down governments
Trump’s laziness saved us so many times.

His laziness and total lack of social skills, total misunderstanding of the actual mafia, in which loyalty IS rewarded, not constantly punished or ignored.

If he were just a slightly better person, he’d be a vastly more evil person.
The last 2 weeks have taught us that the effort Trump was willing to spend on anything was precisely a Tweet

Tweet a call to sedition? Sure

Actually make plans, enact populist policies, get the military on side, curate loyal relationships up & down the line?

Way too much work!
Without Twitter, he sits in his room sucking his thumb doing nothing, because everything else in the world is more effort than Tweeting.

And look, fascism IS lazy. “Do what Dear Leader says & shut up or we’ll kill you” is government without having to put the work in.
Fascism is a boot on the neck & a gun to the head.

And that is & will always be so much less work than legislation, compromise, procedure, & equality under the law. Than actually dealing with people.

So it will always be the choice of the dull, lazy, cruel, & impatient.
I worry about what Trump will do next.

Or what his successor will do.

But not as much as I did before Twitter did its fucking job & banned him.

Because he simply will not put in more work than I am by typing this.

And the worst nightmares require more planning than that.
