The see-saw in farmer protests is to be really honest, baffling. Having open discussions should be the norm. But the attitude of the farmers to not have any discussions is really making them lose credibility. The theory that protests have been hijacked is tending to make sense.
The tragedy of this colossal mishandling by the Govt is that now this method of blackmail becomes a template for people to oppose any reforms happening in the country, on petty political grounds. Shame.
The media in their rush to grab eyeballs has not shown a farmer from any other part of the country except the protesting states, doing those farmers who are genuinely marginal holders, a massive disservice.
Sadly, the electricity act reforms have also been rolled back in an attempt to mollify the farmers. Electricity Boards give free power to farmers, incurring losses. These charges are recovered from industry or corporate connections, raising prices for them.
What a tragedy for Indian agricultre and for India in general. I agree, the farm laws are not perfect and we said so. Let us discuss on those imperfections. Let us work on them.

I suppose the SC formed panel would have done that. Farmers rejected that as well.
I don't believe that the farmers from Punjab speak for the rest of the country. No other state enjoys the MSP procurement like they do. In a diverse land like India, the population of a few has successfully held the rest ransom.
And now this protest and roko system has successfully become a template for everyone to oppose everything that happens in India. Unless individual state Govts figure out a way to remodel agriculture, we are going to be stuck in the same broken cycle.
At the very end, I have a grim fact. Punjab is said to run out of groundwater entirely by 2039. Their own State Govt says this. My question to people like @diljitdosanjh is, when Punjab runs out of water, who will you blame?
