Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Greene, Lauren Boebert, Madison Cawthorn, and the rest of the Trumpism caucus are making a really dumb (& depraved) political bet.

I don't think they realize how toxic Trumpism is now and that it doesn't work without Trump.

McConnell is indecent & self-serving, but he's smarter than Trump caucus. It was dumb & amoral to back Trump, but smart he's finally rejecting him. Now, convicting/banning Trump from office is a rare moment where doing the right thing aligns with his interests. He should do it.

Just look at the Georgia runoffs. Republicans who think Trump's hardcore base is more than a cult aren’t thinking clearly.

They have no loyalty to the Republican Party. If Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley think they can cruise into 2024 and just take Trump’s base they’re delusional.

Before the insurrection Trumpism was in a more sturdy place but after? Millions of Americans finally saw the ugly face of violent Trumpism and the effect of the conspiracy theories and racism.

Now anyone who repeats Trump-like lies or are openly racist will be made into pariahs.

There’s still a lot of work to do, but I think the pendulum has swung in the other direction. Right-wing extremists might be less open about it. The bans from social media and move to Telegram highlights that. They're putting their metaphorical hoods back on.

Trumpism is about to be more fiercely rejected. The media is better than pre-2016 (less hackish, calling out lies & racism, etc). The culture more easily recognizes disinformation & white supremacy.

My point is that we’re in a new era, and anyone pretending otherwise is a fool.
