But perhaps she feels the Humanities aren’t for the lower orders. Too much questioning might make them disobedient.
My students are virtually all working-class, first generation in HE, largely female and 50% BAME. Why shouldn’t they study medieval literature, PPE or 18th-century theology if they want to? What happened to ‘levelling up’?
I’ll believe the government is genuine about vocational skills shortages when ministers and the schools they went to start channelling their kids into nursing and technical education courses. Otherwise it’s just Morlocks again.
