Why I Believe Marriage for Christians is Between One Man and One Woman: A Thread
First off, this is for CHRISTIANS only. If you don’t follow God’s Word, this reasoning won’t apply to you. This is written by someone who experiences same sex attraction, and simply because I get asked the same question so often I decided to share why I believe what I believe.
It’s true, “homosexual” isn’t used in original texts. But those verses are not what we use to define a Biblical marriage. We need to focus less on the MANY ways that a marriage can be sinful, & seek the ONE way God designed marriage to be good... His definition of good, not ours.
“Haven’t you read,” Jesus replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male & female,’ & said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father & mother & be united to his wife, & the two will become one flesh’? So they’re no longer two, but one flesh.”

Matthew 19:4-6
When God created Eve specifically for Adam & He called her a suitable helper, God meant it. I believe God is good, & if the most suitable helper for Adam was another man, God would’ve given Adam just that. I don’t believe He would’ve withheld a good gift from him.
“Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.”

Genesis 2:22, 24
Ultimately, Christian marriage is an image of Jesus (the groom) & The Church (the bride). Not two grooms or two brides, but one man & one woman becoming one flesh, like only a man and woman can do. This is a reflection of Jesus & The Church one day joining together, forever!
From Genesis to Revelation, God’s design for marriage between a man and a woman is good. If we truly believe God created marriage & we truly believe God is good, we must truly believe His design and purpose for marriage are good too. God defines good, not us. His good is better.
