I agree with @LeaderMcConnell, my successor as Majority Leader, that the mob that attacked the Capitol (and caused five deaths) was “fed lies” and “provoked by the president.”

I was in the Senate during 9/11, during the Anthrax attacks, and personally involved in the deadly 1998 Capitol Shooting that the @Tennessean wrote about this week. But I never experienced the imminent threat of insurrection that Members of Congress lived through on January 6th
