The Indigenous #OffDiesel Initiative supports the reduction of diesel use in remote Indigenous communities by funding #IndigenousCleanEnergy projects.

Over the next few days we’ll be highlighting some of these impactful projects and the people leading them.

Community Energy Champion Blaine Chislett and Sakku Investments are engaging with residents of Coral Harbour and Naujaat to create community clean energy plans that will be used to develop future clean energy projects.

Energy Champion Tim Tutcho is engaging with Deline residents to create a community energy plan, offer training, and implement projects. All of which increase energy efficiency, create local jobs, reduce diesel use and costs, and respond to limited winter road access.

@NunatuKavut and @Nunacor are working with Black Tickle and St. Lewis to develop energy plans for their communities. This work will ensure that NunatuKavut Inuit can make informed decisions toward planning sustainable solar and wind co-generation pilot projects.

The Hamlet of Gjoa Haven is engaging with residents to create a community clean energy plan that will support renewable energy projects and provide educational opportunities, leading to energy cost savings, the creation of jobs, and reduced diesel use in the community.

In partnership with all 5 Nunatsiavut Inuit Community Governments, Energy Champion Jessica Winters is developing local energy plans informed by community input. To date, the Nunatsiavut Government will be implementing 1 net-metering or solar wall project in each community.
Energy Champion Alex Ittimangnaq is engaging with residents of Kugaaruk to create a community clean energy plan that will create a smart energy future, preserve Inuit knowledge and traditions, improve infrastructure, create jobs, and increase climate resilience
Energy Champion Vince Robinson is engaging with Nuxalk members to update the Community Energy Plan and advance community-owned hydro and smaller clean energy projects, like a solar project at the community’s school to generate youth-led participation in clean energy.
Société Kuujjuamiut and Energy Champion Jason Aitchison are engaging with residents of Kuujjuaq to develop a community energy plan. They’re working on 2 projects: a 100kw rooftop solar project and a geothermal pilot project.
