This week I am focusing on child reunification. I am contacting the White House and my congressfolk about this to let them know it is a priority for me, and should be for them. https://twitter.com/AngryBlackLady/status/1352257690450456576
I know that President Biden has that on his schedule; I also know it has slipped from "day one priority" to January 29th and it's the kind of thorny problem that could very easily be perfect-is-the-enemy-of-good'd into oblivion.
Donald Trump's regime deliberately made sure the simple and obvious solution of just getting the kids back with their families is not on the table. They didn't bother capturing or preserving the information that would let us do that.
The bureaucratic answer to "JUST GET THE KIDS OUT OF THE CAGES!" is that if we release children without a solid plan and a safe place to put them, we're responsible for what happens next.

I wish to make the case to my government that we're already responsible for them.
The children are already in a dangerous situation, they are already being harmed, and we're already responsible for that and for everything that follows from it.

This is my priority. It doesn't need to be yours, but it's mine for now.
I would urge you to pick something to be your priority and engage with it. As Imani Gandy said in the QTed tweet upthread, this is day 1 of the new administration and it's time to hold their feet to the fire.
If we can engage from day 1, it will be easier to stay engaged. And if you were hoping for a reprieve... I mean, to me, this is one? I'm so much happier to be fighting with Democrats over how quickly we can do things than the fights we had before. This is better. Easier. Hopeful.
