For anyone building a basketball program or taking over a company or university or just doing something that seems impossible, the #1 thing you have to do is not care what anyone else says or thinks. If you care what other people think, don’t do it.
You will be talked about by everyone imaginable and everything you do will be questioned, even by your own people. But isn’t that in every area of life? You will always be questioned, until you succeed.
Surround yourself with a close group of advisers who will speak truth to you, but even then, you have to do what YOU think is best, even if it goes against the grain.
I just experienced a first in my coaching career, and you know what? It just pissed me off, and made me want to prove everyone wrong even more than I already did. We will win, and I won’t gloat or tell them “I told you so,” but I’ll be thinking it.
