The interesting thing about covering political fashion is that there's a huge audience for it as well as a huge non-audience that's vehemently opposed to it. And when I say "interesting," I mean it makes things a bit of a nightmare, of course.
And sure, if someone's making snide "What was she thinking?!?" commentary about political dress, that would be out of line, but noting that Kamala highlighted Black designers or Jill's dress had flowers from all the states is meaningful and important.
When a FLOTUS or a high-ranking female politico like the VP makes fashion choices, it has a major effect on the sales of those brands in a multi-billion-dollar, culture-defining industry. If you think it's meaningless, you're missing the point.

And yes, it's notable when the VP's stepdaughter is a young Jewish girl with a totally hipster style wearing a Miu Miu sparkle coat because it represents generational shift and multiculturalism. Ella Emhoff simply looks like no other political daughter and that's worth noting.
