In FY2019 Montana received over $484 million in federal support for education. Violations of Title IX can result in a loss of federal funding. Can Montana spare $484 million in school funding to keep trans girls from playing sports? 4/
This isn't an empty threat. In 2016, the Department of Justice sued North Carolina over HB2 and threatened to pull federal funding as a result of the law’s targeting of trans youth in schools. The same risks will be present here if HB112 passes. 5/
So, maybe think twice about passing a bill that will do nothing but harm trans kids and, now, cost you hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for education, which will harm everyone. 6/6
