Two things I believe simultaneously:
1) strong local media is crucial to functioning society, even corporate/legacy media outlets
2) corporate/legacy outlets are still clinging to a pre-web—and really, pre-TV/radio—version of publishing that needs to end

This is the front page of The Baltimore Sun. None of the media on A1 was created by Sun staff. Most of their readership has read these AP stories by now, or stories like it. Taking up all of A1 with AP reporting on an inauguration we knew was coming is... not great.
What does a Biden admin mean to local orgs? Local govt? State govt? You’ve had since Nov. 7 to build these stories. @hchomeless @HelpingUp @PPMaryland @BmoreHRC @ACLU_MD @WLCMD @HouseOfRuthMd and more all surely have stories of how they’ll benefit. Tell those.
One of the things that has frustrated me the past two months is how many people are saying “nothing will change” when lots of smallish things will change that make life just a little easier. Leading your local paper with local impact would keep you relevant.
I imagine Sun leadership is wrapped up in outdated “we have to do the news or we’re not a newspaper” shit. But like, you can DO the news, just, make it about the state/region for which you’re the paper of record. AP stories serve very little of your readership
