Did my first @joinClubhouse session on #impinv yday (thanks to @adrianafreitas for inviting me). A few reflections on the experience & topic [a tiny thread]

TL;DR: Less daunting than I 💭 it would be, #impinv on the rise, but still mysterious. Support underrepresented founders.
Speaking when you can't see people's reaction is weird. It's incredibly hard to gauge whether what you're saying resonates or makes sense. Not enough peeps on CH know yet that hitting the mute button in quick succession is basically your "hell yeah" "yep agree" or "+1" reaction.
There's still loads of people who don't know what impact investing ( #impinv) is. @theGIIN provide really helpful guides + research reports sizing the market, which is super helpful. https://thegiin.org/impact-investing/
As a reminder, ALL investments have impact - both positive and negative. But impact investing at it's core is really about investing to generate measurable social and environmental impact alongside a financial return.
A few reflections on the session: some really interesting things were discussed quite candidly 🙌🏾

But a good general rule of thumb, if you come on stage, take a permission-based approach to providing feedback and really think twice about what you're saying.
I was and will always be impressed by the female founders navigating the murky VC space. And it became painstakingly obvious how even folk with the best of intentions might not realise the ageism, sexism, racism, etc. underrepresented founders are faced with on a daily basis.
Big shout out to @_SuzanneNoble @mursalhedayat @ClareMaryJones and others who joined the stage and shared some of their views and experiences - and also offered their support to each other 🙌🏾🙌🏾
A few questions came up re "How do I measure impact?" "Where do I find these wonderful value-aligned #impinv VCs?"

Well look no further - @impmgmt have excellent resources to help you with measurement & I've got a database of 172 investors right here https://bit.ly/ImpInvDirectory
A lot of discussion about intentionality (which is very much needed), the good & bad about UN SDGs and terminology - is impact investing fit for purpose? (pun intended).

@idaaf's reflections on terminology were on point. And there's loooads to unpack re intentions.
Regardless of what you name it, the #impinv landscape is changing! If you look at #TechForGood or "purpose-driven" tech investments in Europe, @atomico's flagship report is full of info on that topic. A thread here (I know how meta - thread in a thread) https://twitter.com/Dama_Yanthy/status/1336255759466770433
