2/ They're already behind where they need to be to hit this target. They have not vaccinated enough people in care homes, which are experiencing fresh outbreaks. Some care staff are refusing the jab, wanting it to go to patients instead.
3/ To hit the target, rather than work to get it into the arms of the frailest they're rolling it out to the less-frail. My parents, both in their 70s and pretty healthy, have been invited for their jab on Monday. I'm relieved, but they are getting it at the expense of others.
4/ They have been given a second appointment 11 weeks later. IF the vaccine is delivered to site, and IF they get it on time, they will not be protected by that vaccine for another couple of weeks. That means May.
5/ One jab is not "vaccinated". Ask any virologist or just fucking Google it. It primes your immune system, you cannot abandon distancing and masks and the rest of it. It is "half-vaccinated".
6/ Many people will stop being careful, because the govt says "vaccinated". Some will catch COVID as a result. They and others will then, again wrongly, assume the vaccine didn't work. Because the govt said "vaccinated".
7/ The vaccines are wonderful. I am thrilled my folks are on their way to being protected. We are doing pretty well compared to other nations. But we have killed more of our population that most due to govt spin and misunderstanding on masks, borders, and science.
8/ So it would be nice if the govt machine, just once, worked well and accurately.
