For too long nationalism was allowed to creep into evangelicalism. It’s past time we root that out. It’s not Christian in the least. Read the Gospel of Luke, Acts, and pastoral letters for context and you’ll see that clearly Jesus wasn’t calling us to become patriotic to Rome.
We don’t need American flags on stage, no need to sing songs celebrating our nations founding, patriotic displays, there is a time and place for that... join the American legion or VFW. Pastors need to put Jesus at the center of our churches. Anything less is idolatry.
That’s not about Trump or Biden or Republican or Democrat. That’s about the person of Jesus, who he calls his followers to be. Yes, absolutely be involved in your community, but don’t politicize our faith. It’s sinful.
We are not a voting block. We are not a segment. We are not a tool or lever to be pulled. Evangelicalism at its best is intellectually honest, curious, engaged in bringing the Good News into our daily life, living humbly, reading the Bible for what it says, lets get back to that.
