whenever i criticise liberals for being enamoured with this or that rubbish politician, i always get accused of being blinded by privilege by people who're like "so i shouldn't be happy about better healthcare? better environment policies? etc" this is off the mark, i think
the problem is the association of these policies with singular politicians (never mind ones who have a bad track record on those issues) - people are still thinking of rights as things which are to be handed down by their betters, rather than be fought for and won collectively
absolutely be excited about better healthcare! but uncritical support of a politician because they said "i am going to give you better healthcare" is foolish. they're tools to do the job, they should get no praise until they've done it. or after, probably. 'now do it better'
positive changes don't flow downwards from our leaders. they force their way upwards, coming from activist groups, campaigners, and most important of all, our noble youtubers
if you hand a leader unceasing personal praise for merely representing potential positive changes, potential is all they'll give you back
